Use ‘Drag and Drop’ to Make a Copy of an Item

You can use the ‘drag and drop’ functionality to make a duplicate of an item. This method of copying database items is quicker to perform, and does not use the clipboard.

To use ‘drag and drop’ to copy and paste an item:

1. Display the Database Bar (see Display an Explorer Bar in the ClearSCADA Guide to ViewX and WebX Clients).
2. In the Database Bar, select the individual database item or whole Group of items that you want to copy. Do not release the left-hand mouse button.
3. Press the CTRL key. Do not release it.
4. Drag the cursor to the System, Group, or Group Template that is to contain the copy of the item.
5. Release the left-hand mouse button and the CTRL key.
   A copy of the selected item is added to the Database Bar tree-structure.

You can use the Rename feature to alter the name of the copy (see Renaming a Database Item).

If an item that you have copied contains invalid configuration, ClearSCADA generates a diagnostic message that gives details of the affected properties. Make the necessary changes to the configuration (see Correcting Invalid Configuration).
