Group Templates and Group Instances

Group Templates and Group Instances are useful features of ClearSCADA. You can use them to significantly reduce the amount of time and configuration work required to:

To learn about the Group Template and Group Instance features, you are going to convert the 'Site' Group that you created earlier in the tutorial into a Group Template. You will then use the Group Template as a model configuration for Group Instances.

NOTE: For this section, you are going to use the 'Site' Group that you created in the Your First 'Live' Configuration section. If you have not completed the Your First 'Live' Configuration section, you can import the configuration by right-clicking on the system icon in the Database Bar, selecting the Import option, then browsing to the SerialComms.sde file that is located at C:\Program Files\Schneider Electric\ ClearSCADA\Tutorial Files. Select the OK button to import the SerialComms.sde file, then use the same technique to import the Site.sde file that is stored in the same location as the SerialComms.sde file.

When you have the 'Site' and 'SerialComms' Groups in your database you can proceed with the Group Template and Group Instances configuration:

  1. Log On to ViewX
  2. Convert the 'Site' Group into a Group Template
  3. Create Two Group Instances that Reference the Group Template
  4. Re-configure the Default Mimic in the 'Site' Group Template
  5. Configure the Group Template to Allow Additional Property Overrides

When you have completed the configuration, you can Test Your Knowledge on Group Templates and Instances.
