Configuring Data Sets

Data Sets allow you to add ‘custom’ tables to your database, which can be used for reporting and are accessible for example, from Crystal Reports without the need for complex cross-tab reports or other formatting.

NOTE: These should not be confused with standard tables that are based on classes. For information on tables within the database, see the ClearSCADA Guide to the Database.

The 'custom' tables consist of:

If your database structure is 'modular' you might want to consider using Group Template to store 'model' Data Set Row configuration. Be aware that you can only add Data Set Rows (rather than Data Sets) to Group Templates. The data from a Data Set Row is displayed in the results of queries run against the table configured in the Data Set that is referenced in the Row's properties form. The database structure allows data from Data Set Row instances, based on a template row, to be automatically displayed in Lists.

Operators can use the Display Data pick action to display Data Set data in List format, and can navigate and sort the data in that List.

Before you add a Data Set to ClearSCADA, carry out any necessary Preparation. Then to create, configure, and populate a Data Set, follow this procedure:

  1. Add a Data Set to the ClearSCADA database.
  2. Configure the Properties on the Data Set Form.
  3. Edit a Data Set.

While the Data Set is displayed in Design mode, you can perform activities such as:

  4. Save the configuration.
