Defining String Point Details
Use a String Point within the ClearSCADA database to represent an internal point, or to retrieve or set the value of a property on another device or application, when that property has a textual string value, rather than a numeric value. For instance, to retrieve information on the present status of a printer that is attached to the system.
Configure each string point on your system by using the fields on the String Point Form. The Form has several tabs, which you use to define different aspects of point configuration. This section explains how to configure point properties that are common to many string points. You configure most of these properties on the String Point, and Control tabs of the appropriate String Point Form.
Use this section, along with the appropriate driver documentation, for information on configuring the string points on your system.
Use the fields on the String Point tab to:
- Specify the Format Settings
- Configure Override Settings.
If the point is a control device, use the fields on the Control tab to:
If the point is an Internal point, use the Manual tab to:
(In addition to internal string points, ClearSCADA also supports String Parameters and String Variables. The type of string that you add to ClearSCADA depends on the string’s intended functionality. For more information, see Parameters versus Points and Variables in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Configuration.)
