Generate Configuration and Profile Files for Diagnostic Purposes
Use the Generate button on the Configuration Setup Window to:
- Create a temporary copy of an RTU Configuration file
- If the outstation has any Profiles, create temporary copies of the Profile files.
Use the files for diagnostic purposes. For instance, use the RTU Configuration file to determine the restart level that would be required should such configuration actually be downloaded to the SCADAPack E outstation (using the outstation’s Download Configuration pick action), or to determine the configuration that would be included in such a download.
To produce a temporary copy of such file(s), select the Generate button to display the File options window. The window contains two check boxes:
- Comments—Select this check box if the temporary configuration file includes comments. Comments in the configuration file allow the contents of the file to be easily cross-referenced with items in the ClearSCADA database. Comments are ignored by the outstation.
- Full Configuration File—Select this check box if the generated configuration file is a complete SCADAPack E outstation configuration.
Ensure that the check box is clear if the file contains only the incremental configuration as a result of any ClearSCADA database changes since the last configuration download.
NOTE: If you create a full configuration, a file named ClearSCADAConfig.rtu is generated. If you create an incremental configuration, a file named ClearSCADAConfig.inc is generated.
Select the OK button on the File Options window to generate the file(s). The ClearSCADAConfig file (and Profile files, if applicable) are added to the list of files in the Configuration Setup window:
The temporary ClearSCADAConfig and Profile files are only available on the ViewX client on which they were created, and are deleted when the Configuration Setup window is closed. You can perform the following actions on these temporary files:
- Export (see Export a File from a SCADAPack E Outstation’s Configuration)
- Remove (see Remove a File from a SCADAPack E Outstation’s Configuration)
With a temporary ClearSCADAConfig file, you can also perform this action:
- View (see View a File in a SCADAPack E Outstation’s Configuration).
The temporary ClearSCADAConfig file is an ASCII text file that you can view in any text editor. For further information on the format and contents of this configuration file, see the SCADAPack E Configuration File Format User and Reference Manual.
