Configure Common IEC 60870-5 Point Properties
Use the fields at the top of the <Point Type> tab on the appropriate IEC 60870-5 Point Form to configure the general properties of a point. The properties described below are common to many points on IEC 60870-5 outstations:
- In Service—Use to specify whether a point is active or inactive (see Placing an Item In Service in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Configuration).
- Confirm Disable/Enable—Users with the required permissions can disable a point that is In Service, or enable a point that is not In Service. Such actions are carried out using the Disable Point and Enable Point pick actions.
Use the Confirm Disable/Enable combo box to specify whether a confirmation dialog box is displayed whenever an operator requests that this point is disabled or enabled, (see Requesting Confirmation of Action Requests in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Configuration).
- Outstation—Specify the outstation on which the point is located. Use the browse button to display a Reference browse window, and choose the required outstation entry.
- Information Object Address—This address, combined with the outstation’s Link Address (where applicable) and Common Address, uniquely identifies a point on a set.
Use the Information Object Address field to specify the address that identifies this point in the outstation. Each point requires a unique address (on that outstation), irrespective of point type.
For outstations that communicate using the IEC 60870-5-101 protocol, the valid range for this address varies, depending on the size that is specified for this address on the Outstation Form (see Specify the IEC 60870-5-101 Parameters).
- If the Information Address Size is 1 Octet, the valid Information Object Address range is 1 to 255 inclusive.
- If the Information Address Size is 2 Octets, the valid Information Object Address range is 1 to 65535 inclusive.
- If the Information Address Size is 3 Octets, the valid Information Object Address range is 1 to 16777215 inclusive.
An outstation that communicates using the IEC 60870-5-104 protocol has an Information Address Size of 3 Octets and therefore has a valid address range of 1 to 16777215 inclusive.
- Severity—Use this combo box to define the severity of any non-state events or alarms for the point.
For more information on severities, see Defining Severities in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Configuration.
