Configuring an ODBC Connection

ClearSCADA can use ODBC data transfer standards to transfer data to other applications. But for ClearSCADA to be able to do this, you need to create and configure an ODBC Connection for each application.

Before configuring an ODBC Connection, you need to check that any necessary Preparation has been completed. You can then create ODBC Connection database items and use the ODBC Connection Form to configure them appropriately. (The Form has several tabs, each containing various settings.)

This section explains the fields on the Connection tab of the Form (see Configure the Connection Properties).

For information on other tabs, see Tabs That are Common to Many Configuration Forms in the ClearSCADA Guide to Simple Drivers.

For aspects of connection configuration that are common to many types of database item, see the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Configuration.

For information on the minimal amount of configuration that you can undertake to produce a functional ODBC Connection, see Minimum Configuration.

WARNING

Failure to follow these instructions can result in unexpected Flow Calculation results.

An ODBC connection that is not correctly configured or whose function is impaired may cause data to be lost when queries are made to large databases. This may occur when the external database is queried from Logic.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage.
