Preparation
Before you can successfully configure a Pager Channel, you need to configure an appropriate Pager Service (see Configuring a Pager Service). For example, can only configure a PSTN Pager Channel if you database already has a suitably configured TAP or UCP Pager Service.
During the configuration of your Pager Channel, you may also need to know:
- The type of connection that is represented by the Pager Channel (Serial, Remote Serial, or TCP/IP).
- The properties used for the Serial, Remote Serial, or TCP/IP connection. For more information on the settings that are in place (which may be fixed or user-configurable), please refer to the manufacturers' documentation supplied with your communications equipment.
- Which features are required for each Pager Channel. You can configure each channel to use a variety of features, including alarm redirection. However, many of these features are optional and have no effect on the success of communications. The optional features include:
- Alarm view
- Alarm redirections
- User methods.
- The amount of time it takes for your communications equipment to initialize, connect, and respond to messages. This information may be included in the manufacturers' documentation, or you can use I/O logs for the Channel to calculate appropriate times.
If the features listed above are not configured, they are not used for the selected channel (they will be left blank).
When you have configured Pager Services and Pager Channels, you will need to define Pager Contact information in the User accounts of each user that is to receive pager or mobile telephone messages from ClearSCADA.
