Disconnect QueryPad from a Database
Once connected to a database, QueryPad uses a heartbeat feature to remain active - a heartbeat signal is sent via the connection every hour. This means that QueryPad’s connection to the server will be closed if:
- You manually disconnect QueryPad.
- QueryPad is closed automatically by a router. This will only occur if the router is configured to close any idle connections after a certain period, with that period being less than 1 hour.
When you have finished using QueryPad, you should disconnect it from the database to which it is connected.
To disconnect QueryPad from a database:
- Use Disconnect from Database in the Query Menu or the Disconnect from Database button from the QueryPad Toolbar .
or:
- In the Display QueryPad, enter the following:
?Disconnect
When you have entered the command, press the CTRL key and the Enter key simultaneously to execute it. QueryPad is disconnected from the database and a disconnection message is shown in the Information Pane.

NOTE: QueryPad can also be closed automatically by a router. This will only occur if the router is configured to close any idle connections after a certain period, with that period being less than 1 hour.
