Check that ClearSCADA Received the Test SMS Message from the Device
Perform this procedure after you Send an SMS Test Message from the SCADAPack 50 Device.
Follow this procedure to check whether ClearSCADA has received the message that you sent from the SCADAPack 50 device:
- In the Database Bar, right-click on the SCADAPack 50 Test.Channel database item.
A context-sensitive menu is displayed.
- Select the Display Events menu option.
The Events List is displayed.
The Events List should show the details of the SMS message that you sent from the device.
NOTE: There may be a delay between when you send an SMS message and when ClearSCADA displays it in the Events List. This can be due to delays in the GSM network and the fact that the default modem poll interval in ClearSCADA is 2 minutes. For more information, see SCADAPack 50 and SMS Messagingsee SCADAPack 50 and SMS Messaging
- Select the Close button.
- In the Database Bar, right-click on the SCADAPack 50 Test.Outstation database item.
A context-sensitive menu is displayed.
- Select the View Status menu option.
The Status window is displayed.
Look at the following status attributes:
- Source—The location of the device data source. This consists of the Outstation Name followed by the device Telephone Number.
- Diagnostics—There are a number of diagnostic database items. ClearSCADA updates these with information contained in the SMS message.
- Select the Close button.
- In the Database Bar, right-click on the SCADAPack 50 Test Digital.Point database item.
A context-sensitive menu is displayed.
- Select the View Status menu option.
The Status window is displayed.

- The Outstation Name
- The device Telephone Number
- The Point Identity.
- Current Value—The point's current value (see Current Value in the ClearSCADA Guide to Drivers).
- Mapping to Device Point—This shows the device point to which the digital point is mapped, as well as the number of confirmed and unconfirmed configuration changes. For more information, see Device Point Mapping
- Source—The location of the point's data source. This consists of:
- Select the Close button.
NOTE: There may be a delay between when you send an SMS message and when the GSM network delivers it. For more information, see SCADAPack 50 and SMS Messaging.
If ClearSCADA did not receive the test SMS message from the device, there are a number of diagnostic checks that you can do (see There is no Communication Between ClearSCADA and a SCADAPack 50 Device).
If the Channel Event List indicates that ClearSCADA received the SMS test message from the device, but did not process it, this may be because:
- The In Service check box in the Test SP50.Outstation database item is not selected (that is, the outstation is not in service). Select this check box.
- The telephone number that you specified in the Test.Outstation database item does not match the telephone number associated with the SIM card in the SCADAPack 50 device modem. Check the device modem telephone number.
- The Outstation Name that you specified in the Test.Outstation database item does not match the Device Identifier that you specified on the Kervisu Global Parameters screen. Match these entries.
If you cannot resolve this anomaly, then contact Schneider Electric Support for further help.
You have now completed the tutorial.
