Configuring a SCADAPack 50 Channel
A SCADAPack 50 Channel database item represents a physical connection between ClearSCADA, a GSM modem and the GSM network. The GSM modem and the GSM network relay the SMS messages that ClearSCADA sends to and receives from a device.
You need to create a SCADAPack 50 Channel database item for each telephone number that ClearSCADA uses to connect to the GSM network (see Add a Driver Specific Item to the Database in the ClearSCADA Guide to Advanced Drivers). You can organize these database items within a group (see Groups in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Configuration).
You configure a Channel database item by using a SCADAPack 50 Channel Form (see Display a Form in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Configuration). A Form has a number of tabs. Many of these tabs are common to many drivers (see Tabs on Channel Forms in the ClearSCADA Guide to Advanced Drivers and see Tabs that are Common to Many Configuration Forms in the ClearSCADA Guide to Advanced Drivers). Each tab contains a number of fields. You use these fields to configure the Channel properties (see Fields on Forms in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Configuration).
To create and configure a Channel database item, you need to be logged on to ClearSCADA with a User Account that has the Configure Database feature enabled and the relevant permissions set (see Creating a User Account in the ClearSCADA Guide to Security).
The following tabs contain SCADAPack 50 specific fields that you need to configure:
- Connection tab—To connect to the GSM network, you need to use a GSM modem capable of sending and receiving SMS messages. Use this tab to configure the connection between ClearSCADA and the GSM modem
(see Configure a Channel's Connection Properties in the ClearSCADA Guide to Drivers).
In the Port field, you Specify the ClearSCADA Port for the GSM Modem.
- PSTN tab—Use this tab to configure the ClearSCADA GSM modem properties (see Defining PSTN Settings for a Channel in the ClearSCADA Guide to Advanced Drivers).
In the Telephone Number field, you Specify the ClearSCADA Modem Telephone Number.
In the Dial In/Dial Out field, you specify whether the ClearSCADA GSM modem will be used to receive SMS messages only, send SMS messages only, or send and receive SMS messages (see Specify the Dial In/Dial Out Settings).
- GSM SMS tab—Use this tab to configure the properties that enable the ClearSCADA GSM modem to connect to the GSM network (see Define the GSM SMS Settings for a Channel in the ClearSCADA Guide to Advanced Drivers).
