Points Used on SCADAPack 50 Outstations
ClearSCADA uses Point database items to represent the measuring instruments that are attached to a SCADAPack 50 device. A point receives data from the corresponding measuring instrument on a device. The device then reports this point data to ClearSCADA, which uses it to update the relevant values in the ClearSCADA database.
For each measuring instrument that is attached to a device, you need to add a corresponding point of the appropriate type to the ClearSCADA database (see Preparation in the ClearSCADA Guide to Point Configuration and see Create a Point in the ClearSCADA Guide to Point Configuration). A SCADAPack 50 device has three different point types:
- Analog Point—Used to represent data that can be in a range of values
- Digital Point—Used to represent data that can be in one of two states. For example, on or off
- Counter Point—Used to accumulate values over time.
You can organize these database items within a group (see Groups in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Configuration).
You configure each Point database item by using an appropriate Point Form. For example, to configure an analog point, you use a SCADAPack 50 Analog Point Form (see Display a Form in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Configuration).
Each Form has a number of tabs. Many of these tabs are common to many drivers (see Tabs on Point Forms in the ClearSCADA Guide to Advanced Drivers).
Each tab contains a number of fields (see Fields on Forms in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Configuration). You use the fields to configure the Point properties. The point configuration defines how that point's data is displayed and used within ClearSCADA. For example, whether ClearSCADA scales raw values, logs an event or raises an alarm if the point goes into a particular state.
To create and configure a ClearSCADA Point database item, you need to be logged on with a User Account that has the Configure Database feature enabled and the relevant permissions set (see Creating a User Account in the ClearSCADA Guide to Security).
