Set the Security Level to Strong or Custom
ATTENTION: The password settings mentioned in this topic only apply to user accounts that are managed directly in ClearSCADA. With user accounts that are associated with Windows User Profiles, password management is performed via the relevant Windows domain.
ClearSCADA has a Security Level setting that is used to enforce certain user account related settings, including the minimum password length, the number of permitted password entry attempts, and whether users can change their own passwords.
When you first install ClearSCADA, the Weak Security Level is in place, by default. This is to provide easy access to ViewX and WebX during the initial stages of setting up your system. To help protect your system from unauthorized use, we recommend that you change the Security Level to a Custom setting and configure password lengths, and so on, to suit your requirements.
Alternatively, you may wish to use the Strong setting which is a built-in high security level. By setting the Security Level setting to Strong, you can improve the security on your system as users will need to frequently change their passwords and use longer, more complex passwords.
However, when choosing a Strong Security Level for your system, you need to consider the implications - your system may be more secure from unauthorized users, but user accounts will need more management as passwords need to be changed frequently, and there is a stronger chance that users will forget their log on details (especially if passwords have to include letters and numbers).
