A channel can fail due to the server being unable to obtain the IP address of the remote computer.
We recommend that you:
- Check that the Node Name that is defined in the configuration of the remote serial channel matches the name of the remote computer.
- Check the network setup and equipment.
- Check the network connection by 'pinging' the remote computer from the main server. To do this, access the Microsoft Windows Command Prompt and enter:

Ping <name of remote computer>
- Do not enter the angle brackets.
- If the network connection is working correctly, the remote computer server will return data that you will see in the Command Prompt window. If there is no reply, there is a fault with your network.
