Communications State - Failed: Unable to Connect to TCP/IP Port

If the TCP/IP connection between the servers and the remote computer cannot be established, the corresponding channel will fail.

We recommend that you:

  1. Check that the Node Name that is defined in the configuration of the remote serial channel corresponds to the name or IP address of the remote computer.
  2. Check the network connection by 'pinging' the remote computer from the main server. To do this, access the Microsoft Windows Command Prompt and enter:
  3. Ping <IP address or name of remote computer>

  4. Do not enter the angle brackets.
  5. If the network connection is working correctly, the remote computer server will return data that you will see in the Command Prompt window. There is not a fault with your network so proceed to step 3.
  6. If there is no reply, there is a network fault.
  7. Use the Microsoft Windows Services window to check that the Port Server service is running on the remote computer.
  8. Check any firewalls in place on your network. The Port Server (TCP/IP port 20876) has to be available (not blocked).
