Dictionary Settings
You can use the ClearSCADA Server Configuration Tool to associate the server with a dictionary folder that contains dictionary files. This allows the server, ViewX and WebX clients to search the dictionary files for specific strings and replace them with 'translations'. This is useful for translating user-created strings into different languages and also for allowing for different terminology.
To substitute user-created strings with alternate strings, a dictionary folder is required. The dictionary folder has to be associated with a server, and is used to contain ‘dictionary files’ - files that have been configured to contain search strings and replacement strings.
In the following sections, we explain the Dictionaries feature and describe how to create dictionary files and associate the server with a dictionary folder:
- Understanding the Dictionary Feature
- Creating Dictionary Files for Translating System Information
- Associating a System with Dictionary Files.
You should familiarize yourself with each of these sections before setting up your server to use the dictionary feature.
For information on configuring a string for translation (by prefixing it with the @ character), see Defining the Format of Displayed Values in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Configuration.
