Set the Permission Required to Set the Value of an Extra Field

By using the Permission setting for an extra field, you can help to ensure that only those users with appropriate security permissions can access the field.

For each custom field, you can define the permission required to set the value of that field. For example, if you add a list field and define its Permission setting as Configure, only users that log on via a User account that has the Configure permission will be able to select the options for the list field. Those users that log on via accounts without the Configure permission will not have access to the field’s options.

The Permission setting is available on the Edit Field window. To access the Edit Field window, see Add a New Extra Field. You can also use the Edit Field window to modify the Target Type of an existing custom field (see Modify an Existing Extra Field).

When you have displayed the Edit Field window, use the Permission setting to define which security permission is required to use the custom field:

When you have defined the Permission setting, you can continue to define the other field settings as required.
