Binary Input or Double Bit Binary Input?
If you use a Configuration Application to configure a Field Device, you will define any binary inputs or double-bit binary inputs. When the configuration for the Field Device is imported or uploaded to ClearSCADA, ClearSCADA will create binary input points with the Double Bit flag set or not set as appropriate.
However, if you pre-configure your ClearSCADA database prior to an import or upload, you will need to specify whether any binary points are double-bit.
Binary input points have 2 states and double-bit binary input points have up to 4 states. You can determine which type of binary input point you need by referring to the documentation for the measuring instrument that the point will represent.
NOTE: The DNP3 Driver and other ClearSCADA Drivers allow ClearSCADA to combine digital inputs to form a 2 or 3 bit digital input.WITS does not allow for binary inputs to be combined in this way.
To set a WITS Binary Input point to be single bit or double bit:
- Log on to ViewX via a user account that has the Configure permission, and then display the Form for the Binary Input Point (see Display a Form in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Configuration).
- Select the Binary Point tab.
-
Use the Double Bit check box to specify whether the point is a binary input or a double bit binary input:
- Clear the Double Bit check box to set the point to be a binary input with 2 states
- Select the Double Bit check box to set the point to be a double bit binary input with up to 4 states.
-
Save the configuration.
