Configuring a WITS Pulse Action
You use a pulse action to send an electrical pulse, for a defined period of time, to a point connected to a control device. For example, to start a motor or to instruct a pump to start running. A pulse is a pulsed (rather than a maintained) binary output control.
The ClearSCADA WITS driver supports the following types of pulse action:
- WITS Pulse (NULL)—A one-action pulse for which a DNP3 NULL command executes the pulse.
- WITS Pulse (Trip-Close)—A two-action pulse. You can perform both actions (trip and close) on the same physical point.
To configure a pulse action you use either the WITS Pulse (NULL) Form or the WITS Pulse (Trip-Close) Form as appropriate. Each Form contains a number of fields, organized into tabs. Use the fields to enter the pulse action properties.
Some of the tabs are common to many types of database item. For more information on the Identification, User Methods, Alarm and Redirection tabs, see Tabs on Point Forms in the ClearSCADA Guide to Advanced Drivers.
You use the Pulse Action tab on each Form to:
- Configure the General Point Properties - WITS Pulse Action.
- Configure the WITS Pulse Properties.
- Configure the Scanning State Properties (see Scanning States for WITS Database Points).
- Configure the DNP3 Object Flag Options (see DNP3 Object Flag Actions)
- Configure the Promote Properties (see Promoting Scanning of Outstations Associated with Controls in the ClearSCADA Guide to Core Point Configuration).
You use the Pulse (NULL) tab on the WITS Pulse (NULL) Form to Configure a WITS Pulse (NULL) Action.
You use the Pulse (Trip Close) tab on the WITS Pulse (Trip-Close) Form to Configure a WITS Pulse (Trip-Close) Action.
