The Scanning attribute is a Health Check Status item. The attribute indicates whether the Field Device is On Scan or Off Scan.
When a Field Device is On Scan, the points in the Field Device will log data and generate events. However, you can set each point to Off Scan independently. Therefore, a Field Device that is On Scan may not log data or generate events for all of its points.
When a Field Device is Off Scan:
- The Field Device will not log data or generate events for any of its points. However, it will generate some device-related events such as health check events.
- ClearSCADA treats all of the Field Device's points as Off Scan points, even though one or more points may be configured to On Scan.

You can define whether a WITS Outstation item is set to On Scan or Off Scan in its initial configuration. To do this, you use the Enabled check box in the Scanning section of the WITS tab in the WITS Outstation Form ((see Set a WITS Outstation to be On Scan or Off Scan)). You should then download the configuration to the Field Device ((see Download Configuration (WITS Outstation))).
You can set a Field Device to be On Scan or Off Scan by using the On Scan (WITS Outstation) and Off Scan (WITS Outstation) actions.
