TCP/IP Type for WITS Network Communications

You can use the Network tab on the WITS Outstation Form to specify the TCP/IP Type for each network connection. The protocol can be:

NOTE: The TCP/IP Type for a WITS Outstation item has to match the TCP/IP Type of the DNP3 Channel(s) used to communicate with the Field Device. For more details on the TCP/IP Type setting for a Channel, see Configure a Channel's Network Connection Properties in the ClearSCADA Guide to Drivers.

The Network tab has TCP/IP Type settings for outbound connections (ClearSCADA to Field Device) and inbound connections (Field Device to ClearSCADA).

TCP/IP Type Outbound and Inbound Network Connections

Typically, you would set the TCP/IP Type during the initial configuration of the Outstation item to match the communications configuration of the Field Device. It is unlikely that you would then make any further changes to the TCP/IP Type in ClearSCADA.

If you change the TCP/IP Type in ClearSCADA and then download the configuration, communications will be lost. To restore communications, you need to:

  1. Re-configure the TCP/IP Type of the other Outstations that use the same Channel(s).
  2. Re-configure the Channel(s) to have a TCP/IP Type that matches that of the Outstations.

ATTENTION: Take care when altering the TCP/IP Type of a Channel. Changing the communications protocol for a Channel will result in loss of communications to any Outstation that uses a different protocol.
