Application Program Files - Syntax and Transfer

Some WITS Field Devices can run programs that are stored on the device, such as IEC 6-1131 programs. For example, a Field Device could run an application program that sets the Field Device to issue pump controls when certain conditions occur.

A Field Device can support multiple application programs, with each program consisting of one file. The application program files use the following filename syntax:

<name>_<version>.<extension>

Where:

<name> is a descriptive name, such as the purpose of the program

<version> is a free-format version string of up to 16 characters.

For example:

SandyParkPumpingSequence_V41.dat

WITS Field Device manufacturers provide tools for creating and editing application programs. For more information on application program tools for your particular Field Device, please contact your vendor.

If your Field Device uses application programs, the application program files need to be transferred into ClearSCADA. They can then be downloaded to the Field Device. You can import or upload application program files into ClearSCADA. (Some WITS Field Devices do not support configuration upload. Refer to your Field Device's Device Profile for details, see Display a WITS Device Profile).

If you upload the configuration from your Field Device to ClearSCADA, any application program files are included in the upload. ClearSCADA creates or updates one Application Program item in the database for each application program file that is uploaded.

To import application programs into the ClearSCADA database:

NOTE: You can also export an application program from ClearSCADA (see Export Program). The exported application program file can then be edited using tools provided by the Field Device vendor.
